Student Home Program Lead – Sioux Lookout/Thunder Bay

The Student Home Program Lead will be the team lead for the Student Home Workers in the Sioux Lookout – Dryden area and manage the KOBE Boarding Home Program.  The Student Home Program Lead will work under the direction of the KOBE Student Services Supervisor – Sioux Lookout – Dryden and the Senior Manager, Student and Academic Support Services. This individual must be sensitive to First Nations culture and traditions and must possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. 

Well-Being Worker(s)

The Well-Being Worker will support the KO First Nation secondary students attending school in urban centres. The Well-Being Worker will assist with student programming and supports that would address student wellness needs. The Well-Being Worker is required to perform a range of duties under the supervision of the Student Services Supervisor, Site Leads and the Senior Manager of Student and Academic Support.

Student Services Activity Centre Worker – Sioux Lookout

KOBE Student Services is a department of KO Board of Education that provides support to students attending secondary schools in Sioux Lookout.  The Activity Centre Worker provides after school and weekend activities for the students.  The Activity Centre Worker will work closely with the Land Based Worker and the Active Wellness Worker. The Activity Centre Worker is under the supervision of the KOBE Student Services Supervisor.

Student Services Support Staff – Dryden (5)

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Student Support Staff. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities to provide comprehensive support to students in our care. You will be involved in daily living support, academic assistance, overall well-being of students, and potentially the implementation and delivery of detoxification services.

Multi-Purpose Worker – Sioux Lookout

The Multi-Purpose Worker is required to perform a range of duties under the supervision of Site Lead, Student Services Supervisor – SL/Dryden and the Senior Manager, Student Support and Academic Support.

Student Home Worker – KOBE Girls Home – Dryden (3)

The Student Home Worker is required to perform a range of duties under the supervision of the KOBE Student Home Worker Lead and KOBE Student Services Supervisor. The Student Home Worker oversees all aspects of students daily living, while ensuring student safety and well-being at all times.

The Student Home Worker is to provide support to the KOBE students living in the KOBE residence.  The worker will provide and plan meals, teach and implement life skills programming such as cooking, budgeting, conflict resolution, self care, and manage student house expectations. The Student Home Worker will be available for students after hours and as needed, transport student to various school activities and appointments.  Student Safety is KOBE’s top priority so the Student Home Worker must ensure all safety precautions are followed.  The Student Home Worker is responsible for document preparation and reporting in the daily log book and reporting all incidents.  The Student Home Worker must be self-motivated and a responsible individual and willing and able to work flexible hours and expected to assist beyond working hours for emergency situations.

Land Based Worker (2) Thunder Bay and Dryden/Sioux Lookout

The Land Based Worker is required to perform a range of duties including but not limited to planning and participating in Land Based student activities.  The Land Based Worker works with the Land Based Worker Lead and is accountable to the Indigenous Education, Government Negotiation Lead.

KOBE Report Management, Intake and Data Coordinator

The KOBE Report Management, Intake and Data Coordinator will lead the Student Services Intake processes, implement and support a KOBE Wide Student Database system and coordinate the Nominal Roll process for KOBE departments.  The Coordinator will support the KOBE staff to ensure program reporting requirements are met.  The Report Management, Intake and Data Coordinator will work with Student Services to take student intakes and ensure that all student information required is in the student files and in the electronic records.  The Report Management, Intake and Data Coordinator will be accountable to the Enrolment and Student Retention Supervisor.

Literacy Teacher Lead – 5 month contract

The Literacy Teacher Lead provides expertise, leadership and support to improve student literacy for the KO First Nation students.  The Literacy Teacher Lead will develop and implement strategies and programs to meet the unique needs of our First Nation students and their families, with a focus on student success.  The Literacy Teacher Lead will work closely and support all KOBE staff and KO First Nation Education staff in the delivery of student literacy initiatives.  The Literacy Teacher Lead is responsible to the Vice Principal k-12 & community education.

KOBE is hiring teachers to teach classes in non-traditional times including Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The teaching will be conducted via distance using video conferencing and smartboard equipment.  One teacher’s work schedule will be from January, to the end of September and the second teacher work schedule will start in April, to the end of December, with paid vacation time falling within the off time of each position.  We are currently looking to hire 2 teachers to start immediately to work on the initial setup of courses and contribute to the overall program.

Youth Residential Worker

Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education (KOBE) is seeking Youth Residential Worker – for the KOBE Safe Sober Site in Sioux Lookout. 

As per Recommendation #114 of the Seven Youth Inquest (June 28, 2016), there has been “an identified need for an alternative detoxification facility in the City of Thunder Bay that would provide the proper supports and supervision for any youth who may be struggling with alcohol/substance misuse.” KOBE has established a Safe Sober Site in the City of Thunder Bay since 2018.  The KOBE Safe Sober Site in Thunder Bay is available  for our students, aged 13-21 years of age, that need a safe and supervised detoxification and stabilization. KOBE will work in co-operation with local service providers to provide a quick response to meet the needs of our students.  

The Youth Residential Workers will work under the direction of the Safe Sober Site Lead (Thunder Bay), and the KOBE Inquest Manager, in the implementation and delivery of detoxification services for youth who are in the KOBE Student Services Program. The Youth Residential Worker will ensure the ordered care plans are followed, will supervise students at the site while they detoxify, and will provide support to students in their after-care plans. The Youth Residential Workers will maintain case notes, tracking of any referrals/specialized services, after-care services, and program reporting requirements. The Youth Residential Worker would also work with the Addictions Crisis Worker, and KOBE SS On-Call Team to minimize gaps and improve overall services.
